Jayden Clark is praised by San Francisco’s “Classical Voice” for his well-crafted soloing, and possessing a thick, burnished tone on the tenor saxophone. Jayden strives to be spontaneous in his improvisational and compositional styles. He sources from the early swing and bebop era as well as modern Australian and American composers and musicians. Jayden aims to be both interesting and accessible to the common ear and unites the most advanced listener with the most unfamiliar.
Jayden’s performances include those with renowned Australian musicians such as Barney Mcall as well as invitations to play with Vincent Gardner and Reggie Thomas after taking part in the 'Essentially Ellington Competition'. In June 2016, Jayden took part in the 'Dave Brubeck Institute’s Summer Jazz Colony' in California. Here he had the opportunity to learn from and perform alongside members of the current San Francisco Jazz Collective as well as numerous other world-renowned jazz musicians/educators and students.
Jayden was involved with bands such as the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra, Judy Bailey’s Jazz Connection and Divergence Jazz Orchestra as well as many semi-professional pit orchestras ranging from Beauty and the Beast to West-Side Story.
In 2017 at age 18, Jayden had the honor to assemble and lead his first jazz quartet. His band played two sets of his own original music at two of Australia’s most well-known jazz venues; the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and Foundry616, and continues to be frequently invited back.
After studying a semester at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Jayden moved overseas to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music after being awarded the Vincent Constantino Scholarship. In 2018 Jayden received a grant from the PPCA Performer’s Trust of Australia in order to further his career as a performing artist.
Jayden graduated in 2021 with a Bachelors of Music in the new RJAM program while receiving private tuition from Grammy Award winning tenor saxophonist, David Sanchez. While in the Bay Area, Jayden played at the Monterey Jazz festival in 2017 and 2018, SFJazz Center and Tedx Talks Sonoma County in 2020.
